Sam migrated to Australia in 1984 as a 16-year-old who didn't speak English.
Born as a refugee to Palestinian parents, he landed in Sydney on 8 August 1984.
Nothing worked for him and his parents. His father had worked as an Auditor with the United Nations and his mother a Teacher, neither of whom could find work in Sydney.
No school in Sydney would allow Sam to enter high school at any level above Year 10 so the family packed a car full of belongings and drove to Adelaide.
Hard work gave Sam a start at a local school and his father put all his life savings into a disused old service station in Metro Adelaide and the business grew.
Sam worked in his first chosen professional career of medicine for 12 years but the itch to get into business meant a new chapter had to start at some point. He joined the family business in the late 1990s as a part timer then full time soon afterwards.
The Bend journey started just over a decade ago in 2013 on this land in what was Mitsubishi's original testing grounds facility. Sam is the founder of this business. The Bend today is Australia's largest motorsport park and one of the top 3 motorsport facilities in the world. In 2019, The Bend won International Motorsport Facility of the Year beating competing bids from the UK, Canada, the Czech Republic and Germany.
In April 2023, the Peregrine Group sold the OTR service station and convenience store operations to Viva Energy. The family's ownership of the Peregrine Property, Construction & Development (PCI) and Motorsport (The Bend and Mallala) remains unchanged.
Sam is currently the Managing Director of The Bend Motorsport Park and Peregrine Property.
