LIONS EAST TIMOR DENTAL PROJECT Team visit 18/4/08-1/5/4/08
Team member: Dr. Terry Yuen (Adelaide), Dr. David Wearn (Sydney), Dr. Daniel James (Sydney) and Domingos Mias (East Timorese Dental Nurse)
We visited 4 villages namely Lautem, Lospalos, Lakruba and Ailieu At Lautem, we gave 3 Oral Health Promotion Seminars to the local high school and screened about 120 school children. We treated 81 patients including 105 extractions, 29 fillings and 3 cleaning of teeth. At Lospalos we gave an Oral Health Promotion Seminar to the children at the Orphanage. We treated 68 patients including 25 extractions, 26 fillings and 35 cleaning of the teeth.
At Lakruba we treated 66 patients including 94 extractions, 1 filling and 1 cleaning of teeth.
The road to Lakruba was destroyed due to a recent landslide. We drove on a partially constructed road which was not properly packed. It was hairy at times.
At Ailieu we gave 3 Oral Health Promotion Seminars to the local schools. We treated 52 patients including 47 extractions, 17 fillings and 9 cleaning of teeth.
